Students of the World | Professionals launching Spring 2012

Students of the World | Professionals (SOW | Pro), an Austin 501c3, is currently fundraising for its first project abroad that will be documenting the power of music in post-earthquake Haiti.

For its inaugural trip abroad, Students of the World | Professionals is sending a team of six professionals to Jacmel, Haiti in July. We are so excited to be working with the Jean Baptiste Dessaix Music School, which brings together local children to learn music and create an outlet for creativity and fun!  We will be creating a visual narrative about the school to show how their primarily volunteer-based staff members are changing lives for the better since the earthquake two years ago.  Last summer, Austin chartered a Friendship City agreement with the creative, art-driven community of Jacmel, and our trip is also a step in growing the creative collaboration between these two cities, solidifying a long-term formal relationship between Austin and Jacmel.  At the completion of our project, we will be able to give the music school our footage to use on their website, on social media channels, and for fundraising purposes.  We will also help spread the word about the school stateside through viewing parties to those who contributed and also at the Students of the World Re-Engage for Good Summit in August, which brings together SOW alumni, thought leaders, social entrepreneurs, filmmakers, and philanthropists.

Please stay tuned as we update you with more information here.
